Fosu-Mensah played 21 games on loan at Palace in the 2017/18 season and then had another loan spell at Fulham the campaign later. He was in Solskjaer’s squad for the Emirates FA Cup tie at Norwich last month.

The other change to the same team that had played against Sheffield United, Brighton, Bournemouth, Aston Villa and the Saints is Scott McTominay coming in for Nemanja Matic as the holding midfielder. McTominay, who signed a new United contract last month, hasn’t started since the Norwich cup tie.

There are also two changes on the Reds’ bench, from the nine men on duty on Monday against Southampton, with Jesse Lingard and Diogo Dalot back among the subs.

United:
De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire (captain), Fosu-Mensah; McTominay, Pogba; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.

Substitutes: Romero, Bailly, Dalot, Mata, Fred, Matic, Lingard, James, Ighalo.
