The former defender, who played 257 games in a 12-year career with the Reds, will take the reigns for his country’s upcoming friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland.

O’Shea’s temporary appointment will see him hold the position until April, when the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) expects to fill the role on a more permanent basis.

As a player, he earned 118 caps for his homeland, ranking him third on their all-time list of appearances.
