MARCUS RASHFORD V LUTON

Marcus’s first strike of the season was a simple finish, but came at the end of a sublime and intricate team move, involving Fernandes, Fred, Rashford himself and then Greenwood, before Marcus applied an emphatic conclusion. Watch it back, and it just gets better and better with each viewing.

MASON GREENWOOD V LUTON

You have to feel for defenders facing up to Mason Greenwood sometimes. You never know which way the boy is going to shift it: onto his deadly left foot, or onto his almost identically deadly right? This time it was his left and, as usual with Mason, the devastating aspect is the economy. He makes it look so simple: make a yard, find a gap through the thicket of defenders, and then simply place the ball into a corner. It looks simple but, as anyone who’s ever played football will know, making the game look this easy is preposterously difficult. Luton were the victims on this occasion, but they won’t be the last in 2020/21.

CHARLIE MCCANN V LIVERPOOL (UNDER-23S)

You expect enthusiasm and bundles of skill from United’s youth teams, but what was most impressive about this Charlie McCann strike was the poise shown by all the players involved. Anthony Elanga and Hannibal were both integral to the patient build-up and, when he burst into the box, McCann had the composure to work enough space to power home a impressive finish.
