REUNITED WITH ELANGA
The former United forward received a warm reception from both sets of fans before kick-off in what was a nice moment, before his energetic showing in Forest’s attack. The Sweden winger is, of course, a graduate of our Academy and was a member of Ten Hag’s team last season before his summer move to the Nottinghamshire outfit. He was a late substitute in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford in August, but was given the platform to properly show his qualities against his former side by new boss Nuno, following an impressive performance in their Boxing Day victory at Newcastle. He was involved in both goals and claimed the assist for the winner.
HOJLUND NOT INVOLVED
The big pre-match news was the absence of Rasmus Hojlund from United’s matchday squad, off the back of his first Premier League goal, against Aston Villa, last time out. Our no.11 was ruled out with illness, shortly before the team news was announced, and replaced in the XI by Antony, as United’s only change. The Reds have a nine-day gap before our next outing, the third-round Emirates FA Cup tie away to Wigan Athletic, so we can hope that he can recover in that time and be available for the visit to the DW Stadium.
66 AND OUT
The City Ground defeat was our 66th and final competitive match of what has been an action-packed calendar year for Ten Hag’s team. Although the trip was not the one that our travelling contingent in the lower tier of the Bridgford Stand would have wanted, their remarkable support was evident throughout the 90 minutes, and was appreciated by both players and staff at full-time.
