FORM GUIDE
Bruno Fernandes’s penalty was enough to see off West Bromwich Albion last time out as we claimed our first home league victory of the season, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to add a further three points on the south coast this time out. Whereas the Reds’ home form has been patchy, our away results have been magnificent and we’ve won all three of our away league matches in 2020/21.
As for Sunday’s hosts, Southampton are looking in fine fettle going into this one. A poor start to the season has been followed up by a seven-game unbeaten streak in the league. They have won five of those seven matches and are currently sitting in fifth in the table, just three points behind early pacesetters Tottenham Hotspur. Earlier this month, Southampton sat on top of the table for the first time since 1988, albeit only for a day.
HISTORY BECKONS
If United manage to beat Southampton on Sunday, Ole’s men will set a new club record of eight consecutive away league wins. That’s a run which stretches all the way back to 30 June. In fact, our last away defeat in the league came in January, when eventual champions Liverpool beat us 2-0 at Anfield. The Reds’ impressive seven-match winning streak on the road has included wins at Brighton & Hove Albion (2), Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Newcastle United and Everton.
