Ravel Morrison offers his side of Wayne Rooney’s phone story

“It’s been well documented about Ravel Morrison,” Wayne told hosts Sam Homewood, Helen Evans and David May. “He was brilliant in training and then obviously had a few issues which halted his career. We all thought he was going to be top level. I think everyone could see those issues were going to be there and quite a few people tried to help.

“I spoke to him. I remember I smashed his phone up, actually, at one point. He came into the first-team dressing room when he was in the Reserves and my phone was on charge. He took it off and put his on. I remember it was one of the old Blackberries which has the email on the front.

“I thought it was one of the other lads so, when I saw it was one of the Reserves, I just smashed the phone up! I think Gary Neville was trying to get him to go and live with him as well, and there were different things people were trying. He’s the one player from the Academy [I rated highest].”
