Old Trafford prepares for record women’s crowd v Aston Villa December 2022

Saturday’s fixture (kick-off 12:30 GMT) is the third big women’s game to be held at Old Trafford this year, after the WSL match against Everton in March and the sold-out opening game of UEFA European Championship in July which propelled England’s Lionesses towards their historic triumph at Wembley. Almost 100,000 fans attended those two games, and another big crowd is expected this weekend.

Following the success of the UEFA European Championship in the summer, which began with that 1-0 England win against Austria, Manchester United fans have turned out in force to support women’s football and that is reflected in the demand to attend matches at Leigh Sport’s Village (LSV), with more tickets being snapped up this season than ever before.

Now, on Saturday, against the backdrop of a carnival atmosphere, United Women look to build on their stunning 3-2 win against Arsenal in our last match. The team will enjoy the support of another huge crowd, which is expected to be the highest attendance for any United Women’s home fixture in history.
