Despite his elation at finally completing the switch to United – which happened in January of this year – Fernandes also confessed to nerves ahead of realising his childhood dream.
“I will say the truth. I was scared!”
he said.
“Because it was a dream come true, but you’re coming for the biggest dream you can have. For me, [that’s] playing in England, for Manchester. It is the highest point of my career, because you’re playing in the Premier League, you play for one of the best teams in the world.”
The Portuguese international has been a roaring success since joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, helping the team to begin a run of 11 matches unbeaten, prior to the suspension of football due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
