The Reds’ confidence grew steadily following the that early breakthrough and we proceeded to keep the visitors’ defence and keeper Waller well occupied.
Waller was Burnley’s first-half top performer, making a string of excellent saves to ensure that his goal wasn’t breached again before the break.
The Clarets did have their moments and, in the 28th minute, Corey Brennan spotted Guadagno off his line and attempted an audacious long-ranger from the edge of the centre-circle but the United keeper stretched to comfortably collect the ball.
The second half largely belonged to United and we increased the lead, in the 65th minute courtesy of Fernandez’s ferocious strike, his first since signing from Real Madrid in the summer.
