Man Utd fans discuss 2022/23 Premier League opening fixture

EVERTON (H)

Adam Bostock, Website Editor: How about a North-West derby at Old Trafford to kick things off? And if it’s too early for us to host our arch rivals Liverpool or Manchester City, then a visit from Everton would be the next best thing. We’ve opened a few Premier League campaigns against the Toffees in the past but never at home, so let’s take on Frank Lampard’s side first in M16. Donny van de Beek could have some useful intel for Erik, following his successful loan spell with the Merseysiders, and that could well help us improve on our 1-1 draw in this fixture last term.

LEEDS (H)

Joe Ganley, Contributing Editor: Let’s be honest: the best football games always have a little bit of bite and spite to them. But, with this season’s opening-day fixture being Ten Hag’s first competitive game in charge, I desperately want us to get off to a winning start. So it’s not the time to be heading to Anfield or the Etihad Stadium. With that in mind, I’d like to see a repeat of last season: a home game against Leeds United. You get the bite from that Lancashire-Yorkshire rivalry, but we’d also head into the match brimming with confidence after smashing Leeds home and away in 2021/22. The Whites are undeniably talented but, with respect, they were the 17th-placed team in the Premier League last term. So, I’m hoping the fixture gods deliver up a second helping of that memorable Old Trafford day from August 2021. A very winnable game, against a local-ish enemy, with Erik getting off to a flyer? Sounds alright to me.
