United now only need a draw from one of the final two games to seal a place in the knock-out rounds of the competition. That is because it is the head-to-head record that counts over goal difference in the Champions League.
As Ole’s side have beaten both RB Leipzig and PSG in the group stage already, one point will be enough to go through to the final 16. Istanbul Basaksehir are bottom of the group on three points and cannot overtake the Reds even if United lose the last two and the Turkish side win both of theirs.
“We need one more point to go through, but of course we want to be top of the group,”
Ole told BT Sport after Tuesday’s triumph.
“That’s our aim, but we’ll take one game at a time and now it’s PSG coming here so we’re looking forward to that one.”
