Meanwhile, United goalkeeper Dean Henderson made his senior England debut during Thursday’s 3-0 friendly win over the Republic of Ireland. He was introduced at half-time at Wembley, in place of Burnley’s Nick Pope, and kept a clean sheet as the Three Lions swept to victory.

The 23-year-old, who has played three times for the Reds since returning from a two-year loan spell at Sheffield United, was first selected in a squad by Gareth Southgate in 2019, but had been consigned to the bench until now, with Jordan Pickford a clear first choice.

Impressively, Henderson has previously appeared for England’s Under-21s, as well as the Under-16, Under-17 and Under-20 sides.
