Our no.8 was in excellent form against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, setting up Alejandro Garnacho’s opener, smashing a spectacular strike home to make it 2-0 and then only being denied a winner, in the 3-3 draw, when another fine shot hit a post.

He will be looking to maintain his current level of performance, after being nominated for our Player of the Month award for November, when Erik ten Hag’s men tackle Newcastle United on Saturday night.

“It’s another tough place to go,” he admitted. “It’s a great atmosphere, a team that is playing really good football – attractive, strong, quick and physical too. It’s a team that has been improving a lot in the last two years, in the way of playing, and I think it’s going to be another tough game, as every game in the Premier League is. Obviously, we have to be aware of the atmosphere there but we’re going there to get our three points.

“They press really high, are strong and quick, and have a very physical team with a lot of qualities, players with great qualities. There’s a lot of goalscorers also in the team and they can play direct football, they can play from behind. It’s a team that is coming from a good result against Chelsea [last weekend] and it’s about us understanding what we can do to hurt them and be our most focused in the 90 minutes to win our duels and win the game.”
