In the following campaign, Ole’s first full season in charge, the manager further emphasised the importance of bringing through youth, while introducing his own signings.

In the season opener against Chelsea on 8 August, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James and Harry Maguire, who would go on to become United skipper after Ashley Young’s departure in January, all made their club debuts. James even crowned it by scoring in front of the Stretford End, as United ran out 4-0 winners.

A few weeks later, Academy product Brandon Williams came on against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup and didn’t look back – he made a total of 36 first-team appearances in his debut campaign.

For our away trip to Astana in the UEFA Europa League, Ole selected six new homegrown players, with Ethan Galbraith, Largie Ramazani, D’Mani Mellor, Dylan Levitt, Di’Shon Bernard and Ethan Laird all playing in the cold in Kazakhstan.
