Paul Scholes and Marcus Rashford pick five-a-side teams

4. Wayne Rooney

“I know who I’m picking,” said Marcus. “I’m going to pick Wazza. He has everything as a forward but other attributes that enable him to play in other positions. I think, watching him from when I was young, I was seeing how he changed his game and developed into the player he’s now known for. It’s an unbelievable transition for me. He excites me every time I watch him play. He’s got a bit of bite to him and it’s important. With his character and personality, it’s natural for him to do that and I think it’s important to have that emotional side to it.”

5. Ryan Giggs

“I’d put Giggsy in mine because I think he’s just been class from the first time he played for the club. He definitely played a big part in my career and, watching players like that come through the Academy, is what drives you and gives you the self-belief you can do it as well. He trained with us a few times when he was coach under Louis van Gaal and it was just his quality, like when Carras [Michael Carrick] joins in now. He still has the quality on his passes, passes forward and find gaps. Even dribbling. He’s not as quick as he was when he was playing, but Giggsy could dribble past some of the players in training. Just his ball control was unbelievable and natural to him. It hadn’t left him, obviously.”

Who would win? David May gave this verdict: “Marcus’s. All day – 100 per cent.” Scholesy added: “I totally agree with you, I’m not being funny!”
