Marcus Rashford becomes European top scorer since the World Cup with goal for Man Utd v Barcelona

The electric forward has now notched on 14 occasions since the season’s restart, a feat matched by no other player in Europe’s top five leagues.

The closest to him are Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who have both found the back of the net nine times since Qatar 2022.

You may be forgiven if you thought that Xavi’s side, who have conceded only seven goals in La Liga so far this term, would have thwarted Rashford and his scoring form, but that was simply not the case, as he lit up the iconic Nou Camp much in the same way United did when we drew 3-3 there back in 1998.

Marcus, joins Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke – our goalscorers that night 25 years ago – as the third United player to have netted against Barcelona in their own backyard, also creating our second of the evening by effortlessly dancing past Raphinha and fizzing in a dangerous cross that Jules Kounde could only divert into the back of his own net.
