Alessia Russo’s headed double, either side of Katie Zelem’s well-converted penalty, helped turn the tide in United’s favour.
The visitors showed a good account of themselves but there was a feeling that there would be only one winner, especially when the home side stepped it up after the break and went ahead through Zelem’s spot-kick on 54 minutes.
“It’s there, we just didn’t do it from the start. That’s a big experience for us to learn from. Look at this environment. That’s what we’re here to learn from,” Skinner added.
“When you’re aiming for Champions League that puts you in good stead for those experience notches and we’ve got that today.
“Everton were great but we just knew we had enough power to go past them when we stepped up our game.”
