Man Utd duo bow out of the World Cup 10 December 2022

Santos didn’t waste too much time in the second half before bringing on multiple attacking substitutes, including record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo, but things never really clicked for the Portuguese who struggled to create clear-cut chances as Morocco soaked up the pressure.

In the early stages of stoppage time, Ronaldo had a huge opportunity to force the game into extra-time, but his low effort was saved by formidable shot-stopper Bounou down at his near past.

Attiyat Allah played through Zakaria Aboukhlal in the final moments, who had a brilliant chance to put the game to bed but Costa was equal to his effort and kept Portugal in it for a few minutes more.

But, just as they have been throughout the tournament, Morocco were well drilled at the back and saw out the 1-0 win. They are the only side in the 2022 tournament who are yet to concede a goal scored by an opponent – the only strike against them coming from one of their own players.
