Fred has high hopes for Brazil at this winter World Cup

“We’ve got two games with the Brazilian Selecao,” Fred told us. “Alex and I will be reunited. He’s a great friend. I miss him and I hope he’s happy in Seville. It’s always good to catch up with friends with the national team, representing your country. I hope we do well.”

When it was suggested to the midfielder that a number of United fans may be particularly keen on Brazil to do well, considering their connection with the current Reds squad, Fred revealed his confidence that the five-time winners can come out on top once again in 2022.

“I hope Brazil are champions,” he said. “And they’ll get behind us. I know they’ll be supporting England but we’re very good, highly focused and it’s going to be a great tournament.

“At the World Cup, I hope Brazil do very well and, with all due respect to England, I hope we win it.”
