The draw with the Magpies was one of only four across this period, which means we’ve won 26 of the fixtures, an excellent ratio. The only other sides to leave Old Trafford with something were Leeds United, Southampton (when Casemiro was sent off) and Sevilla (who scored two late goals).
Our best win from this spell was by a 4-1 scoreline, achieved first against Real Betis in the Europa League and then Chelsea in our penultimate Premier League clash last season. Only Joao Felix’s 89th-minute effort prevented the success against the Blues from being our record scoreline under Ten Hag.
If illustration of our resilience was required, we conceded first in seven of the 30 matches and probably came closest to ending the run when Leeds led 2-0 with over an hour gone in February. Fulham and West Ham United threatened to knock us out of the Emirates FA Cup deep into the second half, and the turnaround came at a similar time in the never-to-be-forgotten Manchester derby victory in the Premier League.
