The Dutch left-back joined us from Vitesse Arnhem in August 2012 and during the same month as his compatriot Robin van Persie, whose goals famously helped us to win the Premier League title that season.
Buttner made 13 appearances across 2012/13 and he memorably scored in Sir Alex’s final match as boss: an emotional and brilliantly chaotic 5-5 draw against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
