Odion Ighalo v LASK (away, Europa League)

The first behind-closed-doors goal in competitive United history was always going to be memorable, but Odion Ighalo ensured that it was for all the right reasons. Found by Bruno Fernandes, the Nigerian’s nimble ball-juggling act on the edge of the LASK area presented him with a shooting opportunity, and the left-footed blast that followed crashed in off the bar with cinematic grandeur. Even in the ’empty’ stadium, you could hear the admiration of the backroom staff and management erupting from the dugout.

Anthony Martial (3) v Sheffield United (home, Premier League)

A goal that completed Martial’s first United hat-trick, and did so in style. While the finish displayed Anto at his ice-cool best, this was all about the build-up. Glorious work by Paul Pogba and a visionary flick from Bruno Fernandes created the space, and when Marcus Rashford slid the ball through to Martial, there was only one outcome.
